One person apparently died in a house fire Monday night in Ocean View.
According to a written Fire Department statement, eight units responded to the 9:08 p.m. alarm at 92-9129 Bamboo Lane, with the first unit on scene at 9:25 p.m.
The fire destroyed the 500-square-foot structure and the body of an unidentified man was found in the rubble, police said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to identify the victim and determine the cause of death.
Although the fire was reported under control at 9:45 p.m., it took until 12:15 a.m. Tuesday to extinguish the blaze, because the nearest water source was about four miles away at a community water tank, requiring shuttling of water by truck.
No dollar estimate was given on the loss. Online county property tax records list the property’s owner as Maile Good of Captain Cook. No structures are listed for the parcel in those records.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
